Chair of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System, Samir Rifai, said the committee is working to establish a system to enhance integrity in Jordan’s parliamentary elections.

“A strengthened Parliament is a strength for the rest of state institutions, which would enhance the citizen’s confidence in this regard,” Rifai pointed out.

Political system modernisation aims to reach a programmatic Parliament that reflects voters’ will and contributes to developing parliamentary performance, Rifai told residents in the northern Badia district and refugee camps on Thursday.

For the first time, Rifai said the Parties and Elections Laws are viewed in an “integrated and holistic” manner, which would strengthen role of programmatic parties that empower youth and women, who have an “active” engagement in public life.

With regard to the local administration committee, Rifai said it is scheduled to present recommendations pertaining to developing Jordan’s local administration within a “holistic” framework aimed at making a “qualitative” leap in service work and promoting governorates’ development, based on participation in related decision-making.

Debates highlighted the importance of the committees’ outcomes, which would contribute to making a “qualitative” leap in modernizing Jordan’s political system and developing its local administration in a way that enhances citizens’ participation in identifying priorities and available development opportunities.
