Amman: A Royal Decree has been issued, appointing Maj. Gen. Majdi Al Harasis as the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, effective from 2 September 2026. The decree also promoted Al Harasis from the rank of brigadier general to major general on the same date.
According to Jordan News Agency, two additional Royal Decrees were announced. One promoted Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti to the rank of lieutenant general, while another referred him to retirement as of 2 September 2026.
His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, expressed his confidence in Al Harasis through a personal letter. The letter extended greetings and appreciation to Al Harasis and his colleagues in the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, recognizing their dedication and service to the nation. King Abdullah II highlighted Al Harasis's commitment to Jordan and the Arab Army throughout his career and entrusted him with the responsibility of leading the Armed Forces with care and dedication.
The king emphasized the importance of the Armed Forces to Jordanians, acknowledging their role in safeguarding the nation's land, skies, and people. He urged Al Harasis to prioritize national interests and to continue efforts to restructure and modernize the Armed Forces. The letter also stressed the need to empower servicemen and women and build their capacities to ensure high levels of performance and professionalism.
King Abdullah II concluded the letter with prayers for Al Harasis's success and reaffirmed his full support for the new chairman of the joint chiefs of staff.
