Russia Reports Lack of European Engagement on Security Dialogue

Moscow: Russia sees 'no signals' from Europe on the issue of finding a common ground with regard to security, the Kremlin stated recently. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted the absence of any points of contact in future agreements with Europe during a press briefing. He remarked that there are currently no signals indicating a desire from Europe to seek common ground on security matters.

According to Anadolu Agency, Peskov criticized Europe's focus on militaristic approaches, suggesting that the continent is engaged in "militaristic bravado." His comments were in response to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's statements advocating for a strategic agreement between Europe and Russia. Orban's remarks, made during an interview with French broadcaster LCI, emphasized the need for Europe to strengthen itself in the long term.

Peskov also noted that Moscow and Washington maintain constant communication, with Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump engaging in direct discussions on pressing issues. This ongoing dialogue aids in mutual understanding and progress, according to Peskov, who was responding to inquiries about Trump's potential withdrawal from peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

Recent analysis by Foreign Policy magazine suggested that Trump might withdraw his active involvement in the peace process due to perceived failures by Moscow and Kyiv to follow his instructions. This could include discontinuing US arms supplies to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Peskov acknowledged a lack of final agreement between Moscow and Kyiv regarding a prisoner swap and exchange of bodies, despite refrigerated trucks being ready at the Russia-Ukraine border for several days.

The second round of peace talks, hosted in Istanbul on June 2, resulted in agreements on exchanging prisoners of war and returning the bodies of 6,000 soldiers from each side. Both Russia and Ukraine confirmed that the initial exchanges under these agreements had already occurred.
