Saudi-Led Coalition Intercepts Missile and Drone Launched by Houthis

Abha:Riyadh The Saudi-led coalition announced on Sunday the successful interception and destruction of a ballistic missile and a drone launched by the Houthi group towards southern Saudi Arabia.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki made the announcements in two separate statements on the social media platform X. The air defenses of the kingdom intercepted and destroyed both the missile and the drone aimed at the southern region of Saudi Arabia.

These interceptions were the first reported by the coalition on Sunday. The statements did not provide details on the intended targets, nor did they report any casualties or damage resulting from the attempted attacks.

Earlier in the day, emergency warnings were issued by Saudi authorities in the city of Abha and the Khamis Mushait governorate, located in southwestern Saudi Arabia. The warnings were later lifted after the threat was deemed to have passed.

The announcements followed a military operation by the coalition aimed at neutralizing resources used by the Houthis to bolster their war efforts, with a focus on disabling their ballistic missile and drone capabilities. Saudi Arabia has been subjected to a series of missile and drone attacks by the Houthis in recent weeks.
