Senate Committee Approves Copper Resource Development Agreement in Southern Jordan

Amman: The Senate Energy and Mineral Resources Committee, chaired by Senator Farouk Hayari, has approved a draft law ratifying an agreement between the government and Wadi Araba Minerals Company for 2025, as referred by the Lower House of Parliament. This development marks a significant step in the country's efforts to develop its mineral resources.

According to Jordan News Agency, the session was attended by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh, Minister of State for Legal Affairs Fayyad Qudah, and Chairperson of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission Ziad Sa'aydeh. The agreement aims to enhance investment in Jordan's natural resources, focusing on copper and associated minerals in the Abu Khashiba area, located in the southern region of the country.

Hayari emphasized the importance of this agreement in supporting the national economy and strengthening strategic partnerships. The draft law ratifies an executive agreement for evaluating, developing, and exploiting copper and associated minerals in Abu Khashiba. It grants Wadi Araba Minerals Company a license to engage in exploration, prospecting, development, operation, and production activities, along with marketing the extracted minerals.
