Amman: The Senate's Arab, International, and Expatriate Affairs Committee, led by Senator Hani Mulki, engaged in discussions on Monday with Emily Thornberry, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the British House of Commons, alongside her delegation.
According to Jordan News Agency, Mulki emphasized King Abdullah II's commitment to supporting Palestinian rights, particularly the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He discussed regional conditions, highlighting the need for implementing the prisoner exchange agreement and maintaining the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Mulki also called for an end to the genocide and blockade imposed by Israel.
Mulki underscored the significance of international backing for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), crucial for Palestinian refugees. He reiterated Jordan's support for Syria in its efforts to rebuild and ensure the safe return of refugees to a sovereign state.
Thornberry conveyed the UK's desire to bolster relations with Jordan, acknowledging the historical ties and collaboration between the two countries. She recognized Jordan's pivotal role in the Middle East and praised King Abdullah II's international standing.
The British delegation highlighted the importance of Jordan's regional role and the global respect for King Abdullah II. The senators stressed the importance of continued communication and consultations on mutual international interests, advocating for exchanges of visits and meetings to enhance bilateral relations across various sectors.
