Amman: The Senate's Arab, International and Expatriate Affairs Committee, led by Senator Ali Al-Ayed, engaged in discussions with a British delegation comprising House of Commons' Labour and Conservative candidates. The meeting focused on enhancing Anglo-Jordanian parliamentary relations, addressing mutual interests, and tackling current regional and international challenges.
According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Ayed emphasized Jordan's role, under the leadership of King Abdullah II, in promoting regional security and stability. He highlighted Jordan's advocacy for increased international support amidst the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. Al-Ayed reiterated that a two-state solution, grounded in international legitimacy resolutions, remains the sole pathway to resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He also discussed Jordan's humanitarian efforts to support Palestinians in Gaza.
Al-Ayed noted the strong and growing relationship between Jordan and Britain, founded on mutual understanding and respect. He described the meeting as a valuable opportunity to enhance parliamentary dialogue, particularly in light of regional challenges. Additionally, he mentioned how Jordan's political, economic, and administrative modernization initiatives have empowered youth and women in public life.
The committee acknowledged Britain's continued support for Jordan, especially in development, and underscored the importance of further enhancing coordination in various areas of common interest. Members of the British delegation praised Jordan's influential role in supporting regional stability and peace. They recognized Jordan's comprehensive modernization efforts and progress in governance, as well as youth and women empowerment.
The British delegation described Jordan as a key strategic partner of the United Kingdom in the Middle East, highlighting its balance of security and openness. They also acknowledged Jordan's efforts in hosting refugees and providing humanitarian aid despite economic challenges.
