Amman:Senate President Faisal Fayez announced plans to enhance parliamentary outreach efforts to disseminate the key messages from His Majesty King Abdullah II's address to the United Nations General Assembly, focusing particularly on the Palestinian issue and the necessity for international adherence to international law.
According to Jordan News Agency, Fayez, during an appearance on Al-Mamlaka TV's "Al-Asherah" program, emphasized the significance of the King's speech as a representation of Jordan's stance on regional issues. He described it as a "historic document" that should be examined, noting it delivered important messages to the global community concerning Israeli violations and the need to uphold international agreements.
Fayez outlined the Senate's intentions to communicate the main points of the King's address to parliamentary leaders worldwide, advocating for economic measures and sanctions against Israel to halt its violations. The outreach aims to include a wide range of countries, extending beyond Western nations and the European Union to significant Asian partners like China, Japan, and South Korea. Fayez urged turning international support for the two-state solution into actionable measures.
He highlighted King Abdullah II's persistent advocacy for the Palestinian cause on international platforms, referencing his 2007 address to the US Congress and speeches at the European Parliament and other forums. The King's recent UN address, he stated, challenged the international community on its responsibilities regarding Israel's adherence to agreements, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank.
On domestic matters, Fayez underscored the need to bolster national cohesion and unity, counter misinformation, and enhance public engagement to address Jordan's challenges. Concerning Israeli military activities in southern Syria's Yarmouk Basin, he expressed concerns about Jordan's national security, particularly regarding water resources.
Fayez advocated for a comprehensive Arab strategy on political and economic security, the reactivation of the Arab Joint Defense Agreement, and greater regional integration. Regarding relations with Iran, he affirmed Jordan's commitment to diplomacy and dialogue, while opposing any interference in Arab nations' affairs or threats to Jordan's national security. He reiterated Jordan's openness to dialogue with Iran, conditional on respect for Arab sovereignty.
