Amman:Senate President Faisal Fayez met with the ambassadors of Algeria, Sudan, and Italy to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and addressing regional developments, as well as issues highlighted by King Abdullah II in his address to the United Nations General Assembly.
According to Jordan News Agency, Fayez had separate meetings with Algerian Ambassador Mohammad Zergot, Sudanese Ambassador Hassan Swar Al-Dahab, and Italian Ambassador Pier Zamporlini. During these discussions, he emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation, particularly in political, economic, investment, and parliamentary domains.
The meetings also covered significant regional issues, including the Iranian-American-Israeli conflict, the situation in the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank amid Israeli actions against Palestinians, and Israeli military activities in Syria and Lebanon.
Fayez briefed the ambassadors on key points from King Abdullah II's UN General Assembly address, which highlighted the challenges facing the region, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank, and the situation in Syria, which impacts Jordan's security and stability. The King called on the international community to ensure regional security, halt Israeli violations, and uphold international law.
The King warned of Israel's aggressive regional ambitions and its incursions into southern Syria, questioning the effectiveness of international law when violations go unpunished. He emphasized protecting Jordan's national security, including its northern border and water resources.
In his address, the King reiterated Jordan's commitment to a just peace, support for the Palestinian people's resilience, and the maintenance of the status quo at religious sites in Jerusalem under Hashemite Custodianship. He urged moving from crisis management to addressing root causes and taking practical steps to enforce international law.
Fayez described the King's address as a call to respect international law and highlighted the risks of ongoing Israeli occupation and aggressive policies. He noted the King's focus on war crimes in Gaza and developments in the West Bank, including settler violence and land seizures.
The ambassadors commended King Abdullah II's speech and his call for the international community to resolve regional conflicts and promote peace. They expressed their countries' commitment to enhancing relations with Jordan in various sectors.
