Tokyo: Senate President Faisal Al-Fayez held talks with Speaker of Japan's House of Representatives, Fukushiro Nukaga, during an official visit to Japan made at the invitation of Masakazu Sekiguchi, President of the House of Councillors. The meeting was attended by Senators Ali Al-Ayed, Khawla Al-Armouti, Michel Nazzal, and Khalil Al-Haj Toufiq, along with Jordan's Ambassador to Japan Nasser Al-Shraideh.
According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Fayez emphasized Jordan's stance against Israel's ongoing policies while welcoming the signing of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. He urged the international community to compel Israel to adhere to the ceasefire terms and halt its actions in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Al-Fayez reiterated King Abdullah II's vision for a just peace, highlighting the necessity of returning to negotiations and establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He underscored the strong ties between Jordan and Japan, aiming to bolster parliamentary cooperation and strengthen their strategic partnership across various fields.
Al-Fayez pointed out the challenges Jordan faces, including economic pressures from regional instability and hosting a significant number of Syrian refugees. He called for expanded economic cooperation and Japanese investment in Jordan, citing Japan's support for the Jordan Response Plan for the Syrian crisis.
Nukaga praised Jordan's efforts in promoting regional security and peace, emphasizing Japan's dedication to enhancing cooperation. He advocated for establishing joint committees to foster a better business environment and support Japanese companies in Jordan.
Al-Fayez and his delegation also engaged with various Japanese political and economic entities, emphasizing the role of parliamentary friendship committees in enhancing bilateral ties. He called for increased economic support and investment, particularly in sectors such as tourism, transport, energy, and mining.
Al-Fayez expressed appreciation for Japan's support for the two-state solution and the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's holy sites. He rejected any proposals threatening Jordan's national constants or promoting the forced displacement of Palestinians.
He highlighted Jordan's reform initiatives aimed at political, economic, and administrative progress, inviting Japanese investment by showcasing Jordan's strategic location and investment-friendly environment. Al-Fayez proposed the establishment of a Jordan-Japan Business Council and a digital business platform to support SMEs.
Japanese officials commended the strong bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic cooperation, recognizing Jordan's role in regional stability under King Abdullah II's leadership.
