Amman: President of the Senate Faisal Fayez said Jordan rejects what he described as Iran's attacks against the Kingdom and will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty or threat to its security and stability.
According to Jordan News Agency, in an interview with Al Arabiya television on Sunday evening, Fayez stated that the Iranian charg© d'affaires had been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs. A strong message was delivered, emphasizing that Jordan would not accept the continued and repeated use of its airspace and territory by Iranian missiles and drones, stressing that such attacks must stop.
Fayez highlighted that Iran's regional policies have contributed to escalating tensions and undermining regional security. He accused Iran of interfering in the internal affairs of several Arab countries through proxy groups and networks and using pressure tactics to halt the U.S. campaign against it. This includes threatening navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and targeting Jordan and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. Fayez claimed that Iran's actions reflected attempts to expand its regional influence and hegemony.
Furthermore, Fayez accused Iran of conducting media campaigns against Jordan aimed at inciting unrest and encouraging demonstrations. He stressed that Jordanians stand united behind the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and that any attempts to interfere in the Kingdom's internal affairs would fail due to national unity and state institutions.
He called for a unified and effective Arab response to Iranian aggression against Jordan and the GCC states. Fayez highlighted the ongoing coordination between His Majesty King Abdullah II and Gulf leaders, particularly during regional crises. He emphasized that Arab countries should deliver a clear message to Iran, urging respect for Arab interests and an end to interference in the internal affairs of Arab states.
Fayez added that the Arab response should extend beyond statements of condemnation to include clear political and economic measures. He noted that the economic ties between some Gulf states and Iran could serve as an effective source of leverage to safeguard Arab national security.
He also commented on Iran's claims of supporting the Palestinian cause, arguing that these claims were inconsistent with its actions. According to Fayez, Iran's primary objective was to expand its regional influence. He noted that Tehran has relied on proxy groups in several Arab countries and mentioned that some have lost influence, including in Syria, while others remain active elsewhere. Fayez further claimed that Iran has not launched missiles at Israel for a prolonged period.
