Senator Jaghoub Nominated to Draft Emergency Item at IPU Assembly

Geneva: The Arab Group at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has nominated Senator Mahasin Jaghoub, Chairwoman of the Youth National Dialogue Committee in the Senate, to represent it on the drafting committee for the emergency item at the 151st General Assembly of the IPU.

According to Jordan News Agency, this marks the third consecutive nomination for Jaghoub, in recognition of her extensive parliamentary experience. She will serve alongside Algerian MP Mohamed Bouchouit during the current session, held in Geneva, Switzerland, from Oct. 19 to 23, according to a statement from the Senate.

The nomination underscores coordinated Arab efforts within the IPU and strengthens the presence of the Arab Group on key committees responsible for drafting international decisions with legal and political implications.

This year's emergency item addresses "Parliamentary Action to Combat Transnational Organized Crime, Cybercrime, and Hybrid Threats to Democracy and Human Security," an area of particular importance to Jordan, whose legislative framework aligns with relevant international conventions and laws based on principles of justice, rule of law, and human rights.

The drafting committee is tasked with reconciling proposals from different regional groups and formulating the final text of the emergency item to balance legal and political dimensions before its submission for approval by the IPU General Assembly, the Senate statement said.
