Amman: The Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC), headquartered in Amman, has announced the annual designation of September 21 as "Arab Renewable Energy Day." This initiative aims to foster the launch of unique projects and highlight both achievements and innovations within the renewable energy sector, alongside planned projects for future years.
According to Jordan News Agency, this announcement was made during a preparatory meeting for the 10th Arab Renewable Energy Forum. The forum is scheduled to take place in Manama, Bahrain, from November 3-5. AREC emphasized that this annual event will showcase the increasing interest in renewable energy at various societal levels across Arab countries, including public, private, and civil society institutions.
In a recent press statement, AREC revealed plans to release comprehensive guidelines on renewable energy in the Arab world during this year's Arab Renewable Energy Day celebrations. Mohammed Taani, the Secretary-General of AREC, highlighted the commission's role in supporting sustainable development and increasing reliance on renewable energy to achieve self-sufficiency and global connectivity.
Taani also praised Jordan's progress in renewable energy, particularly its focus on energy-centered storage for self-generation and security. Recent legislative changes in Jordan aim to encourage investment by reducing electricity costs through a focus on self-generation and energy storage, especially under independent power systems of less than a megawatt.
Furthermore, Taani announced the 5th Arab Renewable Energy Dialogue Workshop, set to occur in Amman from June 23-25. The workshop will focus on "Energy Storage, Electric Vehicles, Infrastructure, and Smart Grids among Arab Countries," emphasizing the region's commitment to advancing these critical areas.
