Situation in Northern Gaza is Catastrophic, Famine is Imminent, Warns UNRWA.

Gaza: The spokesperson for UNRWA, Louise Wateridge, said that the situation in northern Gaza is "catastrophic," noting that last month saw 64 attacks on schools that had been turned into shelters, with an average of two attacks per day. This resulted in many deaths, including many children. According to Jordan News Agency, Wateridge warned, in a video statement to journalists in Geneva from Gaza, about the imminent famine in northern Gaza and the challenges associated with the approaching winter season. She added that the shelters are entirely inadequate to protect people from weather conditions. She said, "People are using anything they can find whether it's curtains, blankets, or sheets to shield themselves. But none of these are waterproof. People are sleeping on the ground, and sewage water surrounds the shelters. When it rains in Gaza, we are deeply concerned about the situation of up to 500,000 people living in flood-prone areas. They sleep on the ground and have no shelter to take refuge in." She po inted out that the entry of aid into Gaza has reached its lowest level in months, with testimonies from people begging for a piece of bread or water. She said that approximately 1.7 million people across Gaza (80% of the population) did not receive their monthly food rations in October, and that acute malnutrition has increased tenfold compared to before the war.
