Amman: Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa on Sunday engaged in discussions with UNHCR Representative in Jordan, Maria Stavropoulou, to explore avenues for enhancing joint cooperation.
According to Jordan News Agency, Bani Mustafa highlighted the significance of the ministry's partnership with the UN refugee agency, which is underpinned by memoranda of understanding that guide collaboration across different social sectors. During the meeting, the establishment of a women protection center was discussed as a means to improve geographic access to services throughout the Kingdom and to offer targeted assistance in vulnerable regions.
The minister also advocated for investment in capacity-building for the ministry's technical and administrative staff. This investment aims to ensure the provision of sustainable, high-quality services, and she urged for continued support of ministry-affiliated care institutions through joint programs.
Bani Mustafa took the opportunity to review the ministry's efforts in the Oasis program, a partnership with UN Women, which focuses on empowering women and girls via social and development services. She also emphasized the Makani program, run in cooperation with UNICEF at community development centers, stressing the need for institutionalizing both initiatives to guarantee their sustainability.
In terms of broader policy, Bani Mustafa reaffirmed the ministry's dedication to delivering inclusive social services to all individuals residing in Jordan.
Stavropoulou commended the ministry's execution of the National Social Protection Strategy and its four pillars. She expressed a desire to further strengthen cooperation within joint programs that support the ministry's targeted social groups.
