Social Development Minister and WHO Representative Discuss Strengthening Mental Health Cooperation

Amman: Minister of Social Development, Wafaa Bani Mustafa, met with World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Jordan, Dr. Iman Shankiti, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting focused on the efforts of the National Psychological Support Team, which receives direct government attention to strengthen national preparedness for psychosocial response during crises and disasters. Bani Mustafa emphasized the importance of a national, institutional, and sustainable system for psychological support, based on systematic training to build an integrated national network in line with international standards.

Investing in mental health and psychosocial support is critical for strengthening social cohesion and protecting vulnerable groups, such as children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Bani Mustafa stressed the need for cooperation in the psychosocial rehabilitation field for targeted groups and the training of qualified personnel in various ministries and institutions to enhance institutional coordination.

The partnership with the WHO has supported the development of protocols and guidelines within the crisis and disaster response system, especially in mental health and psychosocial support. Dr. Shankiti acknowledged the ministry's efforts in protecting targeted groups and expressed a desire to further develop cooperation and partnerships to better serve the most vulnerable populations.
