Seoul: South Korean police have taken steps to secure an arrest warrant for a journalist accused of disseminating false information regarding the detention of 99 Chinese nationals at a National Election Commission (NEC) facility.
According to Anadolu Agency, the journalist's report, which surfaced in January, alleged that the Chinese nationals were spies apprehended during a collaborative South Korea-US military operation. The report further claimed that these individuals were subsequently transferred to a US military base in Okinawa, where they purportedly confessed to engaging in election interference activities.
The NEC has refuted the allegations made in the report and has subsequently filed a complaint with the police, as reported by the news agency.
