Khartoum: The Sudanese army has regained control of two significant areas in North Kordofan state following intense clashes with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a military source reported. The recaptured territories, Umm Dham Haj Ahmad and Kazgil, had been under RSF control since last month. The military source emphasized that the RSF suffered substantial material and human losses during the conflict.
According to Anadolu Agency, army personnel have shared videos on social media showcasing their presence in the newly regained areas. Despite these reports, there has been no immediate confirmation from official army sources or the RSF regarding the latest developments.
The ongoing conflict has prompted thousands of civilians to flee from Sudan's three Kordofan states. The International Organization of Migration (IOM) reports that nearly 40,000 people have been displaced from areas including Bara, Sheikan, Rahad, Um Rawaba, and Um Damm Haj Ahmad in North Kordofan since late October.
The RSF continues to control the majority of the Darfur region, with the exception of parts of northern North Darfur, which remain under army control. Meanwhile, the military holds significant territory across 13 other Sudanese states, including the capital, Khartoum.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has resulted in the deaths of at least 40,000 people and the displacement of 12 million, according to the World Health Organization.
