Amman: Grand Mufti, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Hasanat, announced on Wednesday that Thursday will mark the first day of Muharram, the beginning of the Hijri New Year, 1447 AH.
According to Jordan News Agency, the announcement was made following the sighting of the new moon, which signals the start of the Islamic lunar calendar. The Grand Mufti's declaration is significant for many Muslims around the world as it marks the beginning of a new year in the Islamic calendar.
