Trade minister, Iraqi senior officials seek further economic cooperation

Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Al Shamali discussed, in Baghdad, with his Iraqi counterpart along with the minister of agriculture and other senior officials means to boost economic cooperation between Amman and Baghdad, in the presence of Jordan’s Ambassador to Iraq Muntaser al-Oqlah.

Al-Shamali voiced Jordan’s keenness, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, to promote bilateral cooperation with Iraq in various fields, especially the economic ones, to establish economic partnerships that serve the interests of the two countries, enhance inter-trade and remove the difficulties it faces.

In a statement on Thursday, al-Shamali said that the trilateral summits that brought together His Majesty King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi and their results formed a road map to achieve integration between the three countries in many economic fields.

Discussions covered the latest developments regarding the joint free Jordanian-Iraqi industrial zone at the border between the two countries and measures needed to embark on implementing it.

Trade exchange between Jordan and Iraq reached JD487.9 million in 2021.
