Amman: The General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO), organized a meeting on Monday with trade union representatives and members of the Women's and Youth Committees. This event was part of the dialogue sessions for a project titled "Power of Trade Unions for a More Inclusive and Gender-Equal World of Work."
According to Jordan News Agency, the GFJTU stated that the six-month project, conducted in partnership with the ILO's Decent Work for Women Program, seeks to enhance women's participation in trade unions and promote the incorporation of equality and non-discrimination principles into national labor policies.
Khaled Abu Marjoub from the GFJTU emphasized that workplace equality is a developmental and national priority, not just a women's issue. He noted that empowering women in the labor market positively affects families, society, and the national economy.
Reem Aslan, Director of the Decent Work for Women Program, highlighted the project's role in boosting women's and youth's participation in the labor market through practical measures. These include social dialogue sessions with stakeholders, legal awareness workshops, and the activation of internal policies within the Federation. She underlined the critical role of trade unions in advancing gender equality and ensuring workplace fairness.
Participants deliberated on the contribution of trade unions and specialized committees to the project's action plan, stressing the importance of amplifying their voices through social dialogue. The meeting also tackled several key topics, including the care economy, maternity protection, safeguarding against workplace violence, women's leadership empowerment, the green economy, and a just transition.
