Amman: The Jordan Traffic Institute has issued a stern warning regarding the dangers posed by unsecured cargo on the nation's roads, emphasizing the significant threats to public safety and the environment. Brig. Gen. Raed Al-Assaf, the institute's director, highlighted the risks associated with sand and loose materials from cargo trucks, noting that flying debris can be as hazardous as lethal projectiles.

According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Assaf detailed that a 5-kilogram object that becomes dislodged from a moving truck can impact with a force equivalent to 100 kilograms. This underscores the critical importance of ensuring that cargo is fully covered and securely fastened. He pointed out that while Jordan's traffic law covers various driver violations, cargo trucks present specific dangers due to unsecured or uncovered loads, which can threaten road users and the environment.

Legal penalties are already in place for violations related to unsecured or uncovered loads, and Al-Assaf emphasized the necessity of preventive measures to prevent dust or materials from dispersing from vehicles. Such violations are closely monitored by traffic inspectors throughout the day and night.

Previously, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) issued a warning about the hazards linked to improperly secured loads. The PSD highlighted that falling or flying cargo could lead to severe accidents, impede drivers' visibility, and inflict environmental harm. The directorate has committed to rigorously enforcing both legal and administrative measures against drivers and vehicle owners who are found in violation, with the aim of safeguarding lives and property.

Truck drivers have been urged to adhere to road safety regulations, ensure that their cargo is secured according to established standards, and work collaboratively with traffic and security patrols to maintain safe and orderly road conditions.
