Madaba: The first session of a training program aimed at enhancing the capacity of civil society organizations in climate-smart agriculture began Monday in Madaba Governorate. The training is part of the "Building Resilience to Climate Change in Jordan through Improving Water Use Efficiency in the Agricultural Sector" (BRCCJ) project.
According to Jordan News Agency, the program, which will expand to Karak, Ma'an, and Tafilah in later phases, targets cooperatives and charitable organizations working in agriculture across the Dead Sea Basin. It seeks to equip them with knowledge and sustainable technologies to tackle the growing challenges of climate change.
Organized in partnership between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Advance Consulting, the training covers critical topics such as climate-smart agriculture, water conservation, sustainable resource management, and modern farming practices.
Samia Akroush, an expert in education policy and organization at FAO, noted that the program launched simultaneously at the Jordanian Women's Union Association in Madaba and the Dhiban Youth Model Center in Dhiban District. She underscored FAO's commitment to working closely with local communities.
Akroush added that the program was tailored to meet the specific needs of local associations, with a focus on enhancing their ability to adapt to climate change in effective and sustainable ways.
Lamia Dabbas, Regional Director at Advance Consulting, stressed the significance of empowering communities to respond to climate challenges. She said the implementation in Madaba and Dhiban was carried out in direct coordination with local organizations, aligning with the company's efforts to foster partnerships, support knowledge exchange, and deliver practical agricultural solutions.
The project is funded by the Green Climate Fund and implemented by FAO in collaboration with the Ministries of Water and Irrigation, Agriculture, and Environment, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
