Amman: Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh Saturday inaugurated a new transformer station in downtown Amman and an advanced customer service center in the Russeifa district, part of the Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO). These initiatives aim to enhance the electricity grid to accommodate rising energy demand and expand communication with subscribers to ensure more efficient services.
According to Jordan News Agency, Kharabsheh stated that the inauguration of these projects highlights the collaboration among sector stakeholders to meet citizens’ needs quickly and efficiently while maintaining a stable national electricity system and enhanced energy security. Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) Chairman Ziad Sa’aideh emphasized the commission’s role in regularly monitoring the implementation of the sector’s operational and technical plans. He noted the commitment to integrating roles with companies to ensure reliable supply, improve service quality, and respond promptly to challenges in electricity loads.
JEPCO General Manager Hassan Abdullah outlined the power company’s strategic plan, which includes expanding existing stations, establishing new transformer stations, modernizing the network, and enhancing its operational efficiency. Additionally, the plan aims to provide advanced service centers to improve communication with subscribers and cater to the constant rise in demand.
During the visit to the newly completed transformer station in downtown Amman, the energy minister was briefed on its facilities and technical components, underscoring its pivotal role in enhancing the reliability of the network and improving service quality in the capital and surrounding areas. The projects launched by JEPCO since last year involve the construction of 19 main transformer stations to serve the four central governorates (Amman, Zarqa, Madaba, and Balqa), with a total cost of about JD80 million. These are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
The projects aim to reduce technical losses, increase the grid’s efficiency, and secure additional load capacities to meet the rising use of air conditioning, heating devices, and electric vehicles.
