Amman: A delegation from the National Institute of Agronomic Research of Tunisia (INRAT) and Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATCT) toured key agricultural projects in the Northern Jordan Valley region. During the visit, the delegation explored opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation in agriculture to boost joint food security and sustainable development.

According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting included participation from Mohammad Hiyari, Head of the Projects Directorate at the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture, and Mohammad Naeem, Director of Agriculture Affairs in Northern Jordan Valley District. Naeem emphasized the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and enhancing its role in the national economy. He highlighted the ministry’s efforts to create an attractive investment climate through practical steps and programs.

The Tunisian delegation examined key agricultural projects and models in the region, assessing challenges and opportunities for sector development. They toured pilot agricultural projects and were briefed on modern agricultural methods, particularly in citrus cultivation using advanced irrigation systems. The team also reviewed the citrus cooling project in the Northern Jordan Valley, supported by the Islamic Development Bank, which aims to improve post-harvest processes and enhance product competitiveness.

Dr. Monzer Ben Salem, INRAT Director, led the delegation and praised Jordan’s efforts in developing the agricultural sector. He expressed Tunisia’s interest in leveraging Jordanian expertise to foster constructive cooperation, particularly in developing agricultural production chains and improving food security.
