Ankara: Trkiye's parliament has adopted a motion condemning Israel's expanded occupation in Gaza and its alleged genocide against the Palestinian people. The extraordinary session was convened under Speaker Numan Kurtulmus to address what lawmakers describe as the genocide and oppression of Palestinians, along with Israel's famine policies and the current regional situation.

According to Anadolu Agency, the parliamentary resolution, signed by Speaker Kurtulmus, was read out at the assembly. It accuses Israel of transforming its long-standing policies of occupation, destruction, and annexation into genocide in Gaza over the past two years. The declaration criticizes the 'genocidal Netanyahu government' for allegedly condemning Gaza's people to hunger and famine, describing Gaza as a 'death and hunger prison.'

The motion asserts that Israel's expanded operations have led to increased 'massacres and oppression,' allegedly resulting in nearly 70,000 deaths, predominantly women and children, injuring over 150,000, and destroying much of Gaza's civilian infrastructure. It accuses Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of intensifying efforts to annex all Palestinian territories, including Gaza.

The resolution highlights that no global body, aside from the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, has taken action against Israel's decisions and actions. It notes, however, that some states, previously silent or supportive of Israel, are now recognizing Palestine and adopting boycott measures against Israel, describing this change as a "major success of humanity's conscience."

The Turkish parliament's resolution calls for international action against Israel and wider recognition of Palestine. It emphasizes that the actions in Gaza constitute genocide and urges the global community to pressure Israel for a lasting ceasefire, troop withdrawal, and continuous humanitarian aid into Gaza.

The memorandum suggests suspending Israel's membership in the UN and other international bodies until it ceases its policies. It calls for national parliaments to cut military and commercial ties with Israel and work to lift the embargo on Palestine. It also advocates for preserving a two-state solution, urging countries to recognize Palestine and join the Group of Parliaments in Support of Palestine, established in Istanbul under Turkey's leadership in April.
