Ankara: The Türkiye-Syria transit corridor is set to enable Turkish trucks to reach Jordan and Gulf countries by road when it becomes fully operational next year, as announced by the Turkish trade minister. This development follows the resolution of issues such as visa regulations and road rehabilitation in Syria.
According to TRTworld.com, Omer Bolat, the Turkish trade minister, indicated that although Turkish trucks can currently travel through Syria to Jordan and the Gulf due to a deal signed in June, there are still challenges to address. These include customs regulations within Syria, as well as road and visa issues that are being actively worked on.
Bolat also highlighted the excitement generated in Jordan by the signing of the route agreement between Turkish and Syrian transport ministers. This road, which extends from Türkiye to Europe via Jordan and Syria, plays a crucial role in facilitating trade and transportation in the region.
The trade relationship between Türkiye and Jordan has been steadily growing, with mutual trade reaching $1.1 billion in 2024 and surpassing $1.4 billion so far this year. Bolat expressed optimism that this figure would exceed $1.6 billion by the end of the year.
Furthermore, Bolat encouraged Turkish businesspeople and contractors to participate in the upcoming $15 billion development infrastructure projects in Jordan, which include a significant water project and railway construction. To date, Turkish contractors have completed 60 projects valued at $2.3 billion, further strengthening the economic ties between the countries. Bolat emphasized that as trade increases, so do investments.
