Amman: The UEFA Champions League matches this season have coincided with Ramadan, leading to a surge in caf© attendance across Amman and other Jordanian governorates.
According to Jordan News Agency, with the Round of 16 matches taking place at 11 PM Amman time, young football fans are flocking to caf©s to watch their favorite European teams in an exciting and competitive atmosphere. The most popular teams among Jordanian fans include Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Caf© owners are reporting increased business, as many Jordanians prefer to stay out late during Ramadan. Ahmad Al-Asouli, a caf© owner in Ajloun, noted that Champions League nights bring in more customers than usual, especially for high-profile matches. "People start arriving at 10 PM, and by 11 PM, the caf© is packed with fans eager to watch their teams. Matches end after midnight, making these nights highly profitable compared to regular days," Al-Asouli told Petra.
Football fan Mohammad Atiyeh emphasized the lively atmosphere in caf©s during Champions League nights. "For example, tomorrow's match between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid is expected to attract a huge audience," he said.
Former footballer Yasser Al-Omari described watching UEFA games in Ramadan as a special experience, full of friendly banter among friends supporting different teams.
Caf©s across Jordan are hiring extra staff to handle the crowd, as confirmed by Mohammad Metwally, an Egyptian worker in a caf© in Irbid. "Champions League nights mean non-stop work, but they also bring great profits," he explained.
With major Champions League matches still ahead, Jordan's caf©s are set to enjoy a continued business boom throughout Ramadan.
