London:The UK government has pledged to uphold pressure on Russia in response to a newly announced diesel deal between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Anadolu Agency, the UK government emphasized its commitment through a spokesperson's statement, asserting that the country would continue collaborating with international partners to provide Ukraine with the necessary military and financial support for its defense. The statement highlighted the UK's strategy to maintain pressure on Russia by implementing the "toughest sanctions regime" to elevate the costs of "Putin's aggression" and contribute to peace efforts.
The spokesperson further remarked on Ukraine's dedication to peace, contrasting it with Russia's rejection of ceasefires and ongoing assaults on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure. The UK reiterated its steadfast support for Ukraine and its intention to collaborate with allies to achieve lasting peace.
The phone conversation between Putin and Trump took place on Friday, with Trump labeling it a 'highly successful discussion.' Following the talks, Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that Russia agreed to supply over 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to US and global markets immediately. Additional supplies of 500,000 tons are expected in November, with further deliveries totaling 4 million tons anticipated shortly after, contingent on Russian refinery conditions.
Putin commented that the diesel supply would positively impact the global economy. The leaders also explored topics related to the global energy sector, efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict, the situation in Iran, and bilateral relations.
