Ukraine Secures £5.9 Billion EU Financial Package to Support Economy and Defense

Kyiv: Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that Ukraine has received £5.9 billion ($6.9 billion) in financial support from the European Union. This funding is aimed at stabilizing the Ukrainian economy, bolstering public services, and freeing up domestic resources to meet defense needs.

According to Anadolu Agency, the financial package includes £4.1 billion in Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) loans. These loans are funded by profits from immobilized Russian assets. Additionally, £1.8 billion is provided through the Ukraine Facility, an EU financial assistance program designed to support Ukraine's economic and structural reforms.

Svyrydenko highlighted the significance of the ERA tranche, the final component of the EU's £18 billion program, describing it as a profound demonstration of Europe's commitment to justice and unity. She expressed gratitude to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis, and Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira for their leadership and steadfast support. She emphasized that this assistance will contribute to saving lives, rebuilding infrastructure, and strengthening the economy.

The Prime Minister also noted that the £1.8 billion provided under the Ukraine Facility underscores Kyiv's ongoing reform process and its trajectory toward closer integration with the European bloc. She stated that these funds enable Ukraine to allocate more of its resources towards critical defense needs.
