United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres welcomed the signing of the Algiers Declaration by 14 Palestinian factions as a positive step towards intra-Palestinian reconciliation.
In a statement late Saturday, Guterres stressed that the Palestinian reconciliation is crucial for a politically stable sovereign Palestine.
“The Secretary-General encouraged all factions to overcome their differences through dialog and urged them to follow up the commitments included in the Declaration, including the holding of elections,” according to the statement.
He also appreciated the efforts to this end of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, and notably of President Abdelmajid Tebboune.
