Amman: UN Humanitarian Affairs Chief Tom Fletcher on Wednesday urged the opening of additional crossings to allow more humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, calling for a practical and genuine approach to remove the remaining obstacles.
According to Jordan News Agency, Fletcher emphasized in a statement that denying aid to civilians should not be used as a bargaining chip, and facilitating the delivery of relief is a legal obligation. He highlighted that humanitarian teams had begun scaling up aid deliveries earlier this week after months of frustration and obstruction, with shipments of essential items such as food, medicine, fuel, water, cooking gas, and tents reaching those in need.
Fletcher noted, however, that there had been a renewed decline in the implementation of aid delivery as of yesterday. He referred to the UN's 60-day plan aimed at expanding life-saving assistance and mentioned that he remains in the region to coordinate the plan's implementation.
