UN official calls for independent investigation into pager explosions in Lebanon, Syria

The United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Trk on Wednesday stressed the need to open an independent, comprehensive, and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the mass bombings that took place in Lebanon and Syria, and to hold those who ordered and carried them out accountable. In a press release, Trk said that the explosions that occurred on a large scale and simultaneously in Lebanon and Syria, as a result of the explosion of pagers, are extremely shocking and their effects on civilians are unacceptable, adding that "the fear and terror spread by these attacks are appalling."
