UN Rights Chief Reports Nearly 1,000 Palestinians Killed in Gaza Post-Ceasefire

Geneva: UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk announced on Monday that Israeli forces have killed nearly 1,000 Palestinians in Gaza since a ceasefire was declared last October. The majority of the casualties are reported to be civilians.

According to Jordan News Agency, Turk addressed the UN Human Rights Council, highlighting that Israeli authorities are confining Palestinians to increasingly restricted areas within the enclave. He also noted the imposition of severe limitations on essential humanitarian aid.

Turk further reported on the situation in the West Bank, where Israeli security forces and settlers are reportedly intensifying efforts to dismantle local communities and annex land. Since the start of the year, 57 individuals have been killed, approximately 1,300 injured, hundreds detained, and 23 land confiscation orders have been issued.

Turk underscored that declarations by some Israeli officials about the "removal" of all Palestinians from Gaza and the elimination of any potential for a viable Palestinian state are entirely illegal.
