New york: The UN Security Council convened on Tuesday to evaluate the ongoing situation in Libya, receiving a comprehensive briefing from Hanna Tetteh, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya.
According to Jordan News Agency, Tetteh emphasized the urgency of implementing the roadmap established by the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), warning against "continued delays or obstruction." She highlighted the critical need for the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State to agree on a mechanism for reconstituting the High National Election Commission and to discuss the constitutional and legal framework necessary for upcoming elections. These discussions are pivotal milestones in the proposed roadmap.
The roadmap aims to conclude the transitional period by facilitating agreements on unified institutions and conducting presidential and parliamentary elections that are free, fair, transparent, and inclusive within an 18-month timeline. Additionally, it seeks to promote a structured dialogue that involves both Libyan institutional actors and the Libyan people.
