Under Royal Directives, Jordanian Citizen Kataw Released from Detention in Yemen

Amman: Under Royal directives from His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and relevant official institutions closely followed up the release of Jordanian citizen Lana Shukri Kataw, Deputy Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) office in Yemen, who was detained for several days in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.

According to Jordan News Agency, the combined efforts of Jordanian authorities led to the safe return of the UN employee and Jordanian citizen to her homeland. Upon her arrival to the Kingdom at Marka Civil Airport, Kataw was received by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dhaifallah Fayez, several officials, and her family members.

In a statement, the ministry’s official spokesperson, Fouad Majali, said the ministry, in cooperation with relevant authorities, has been following up the case from the first moment of Kataw’s detention to ensure her release and return to Jordan. Majali stated these efforts led to the successful conclusion of the case, adding that Kataw has now joined her family and on the Kingdom’s soil.
