UNRWA Warns of Ongoing Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza Strip

Amman: United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini on Monday warned against the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip amid waning international attention and escalating violence.

According to Jordan News Agency, Lazzarini said in a statement posted on the refugee agency's website that dozens of victims have fallen in recent days, including starving civilians who were killed trying to get food under a "deadly" distribution system.

He highlighted that ongoing restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid, including UNRWA aid, are hindering the delivery of relief supplies despite the availability of large quantities. Lazzarini also warned that severe fuel shortages are impeding the provision of basic services, particularly healthcare and water.

Lazzarini emphasized that the continued killing and violence will only lead to further escalation and bloodshed with civilians the primary victims.
