US Ambassador to Baghdad Alina Romanowski confirmed the United States' rejection of any targeting of the supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Imam Sayyed Ali al-Sistani. Romanowski said in a tweet that "Mr. Sistani is a prominent religious figure who is respected by the international community" and is a decisive and influential voice in maintaining peace in the region.
