Riyadh:Istanbul The US and UK embassies in Saudi Arabia have advised their citizens to steer clear of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh following recent attacks, highlighting concerns over security risks and potential travel disruptions.
According to Anadolu Agency, the US Embassy issued a statement on Saturday acknowledging attacks on the airport on October 10. They strongly recommended that all US citizens avoid the airport and its surrounding areas due to possible flight cancellations, airspace closures, and other disruptions. The embassy also noted that US government employees in Saudi Arabia need special authorization to use the airport.
The British Embassy in Riyadh released a similar alert after a serious incident at the airport on October 10, 2026, at around 1500 local time. They advised British nationals to avoid the airport until it is deemed secure and to follow guidance from Saudi authorities.
The US Embassy reiterated existing travel restrictions for American government personnel in Saudi Arabia, prohibiting travel within 20 miles of the Yemen border and requiring special authorization for travel to certain provinces and cities, including Jizan, Asir, Najran, Qatif, Yanbu, and Taif.
Saudi authorities reported on Friday that two attacks on Thursday had resulted in the deaths of three citizens and injuries to others at King Khalid International Airport and a Saudi Arabian Airlines aircraft. Despite this, airport operations have since resumed, with air traffic returning to normal, as confirmed by the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation.
In recent days, Yemen's Houthis have claimed responsibility for several missile and drone attacks on King Khalid International Airport and other Saudi airports.
