Washington:The average price of diesel in the United States hit a record $6.52 per gallon on Monday, marking the highest price level ever recorded in the country.
According to Jordan News Agency, diesel prices in the US have surged since early September, surpassing $6 per gallon in several states. This increase is expected to exert additional pressure on key economic sectors.
The rise in diesel prices is attributed to US inventories of diesel and other refined products falling to their lowest levels in years. This domestic supply shortage has occurred alongside global disruptions in shipping and refining, which have kept markets under pressure due to tight supplies and rising costs.
The American Automobile Association (AAA) reported similar price levels and noted the economic repercussions of ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran.
Diesel prices were notably high in several states, with California seeing prices exceed $8.40 per gallon, Hawaii at $7.10, and Michigan reaching $6.80.
Media reports highlighted a significant increase in US diesel prices, with the average price standing at $5.96 per gallon on September 7, illustrating the sharp rise over the past three weeks.
The surge in prices comes amid higher global energy costs driven by supply disruptions, including the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and shipping issues in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Additionally, Brent crude futures rose about 2.7 percent on Monday, reaching $107 per barrel, while US crude futures climbed 2.5 percent to approximately $94.80 per barrel.
