The US State Department said late Saturday that Iran was accountable for the safety of Americans held at Tehran’s Evin prison, after fire and clashes erupted at the jail, according to the Washington Post.
State Department Spokesman Ned Price tweeted “Iran is fully responsible for the safety of our wrongfully detained citizens, who should be released immediately”, adding “we are following reports from Evin Prison with urgency.”
