Vernal Equinox to Occur Thursday, Marking Start of Spring

Amman: The vernal equinox, signaling the astronomical start of spring, will take place at exactly 12:01 PM on Thursday, Jordan time, according to President of the Jordanian Astronomical Society Ammar Sakaji.

According to Jordan News Agency, Sakaji explained on Wednesday that at this moment, the sun will be directly over the equator, causing day and night to be nearly equal in length worldwide, except at the poles and the equator.

This year, the vernal equinox will occur with the sun positioned in the constellation of Pisces. Spring in Jordan will extend for 92 days, 17 hours, and 40 minutes, concluding with the summer solstice on June 21, 2025.

He noted that the vernal equinox is a significant reference point in astronomy and space navigation, serving as the zero point for sidereal time. He further explained that due to the Earth's axial movement, the equinox date shifts slightly each year, but it will remain fixed on March 20 until 2059.
