Karak: Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Soud, conducted an inspection tour of several critical water projects in the southern governorates of Karak and Tafila. This visit underscores the ministry's commitment to addressing the water needs of residents across the nation.
According to Jordan News Agency, Minister Abu Soud emphasized the government's ongoing efforts to ensure the provision of safe drinking water and to protect public health. While inspecting various projects in Karak, he highlighted the government's initiatives to guarantee the equitable distribution of water based on established schedules. A significant directive from the minister was the prompt commencement of operations at the Wadi Karak wastewater treatment plant.
The minister was updated on the JD6 million project aimed at enhancing the water network in the Faqou' district. Additionally, projects to upgrade water and sanitation networks in Mazar, Mu'tah, and Suburban Karak, along with network extensions to new regions at a cost of approximately JD500,000, were reviewed. Abu Soud also assessed the preparation and rehabilitation of wells in Muhi, Al-Sultani, Al-Lajoun, Qatrana, and Southern Ghor, with an estimated investment of JD250,000, in anticipation of the summer season.
During his visit to the Meroud wastewater treatment plant in Karak, the minister instructed collaboration with local farmers to provide them with daily access to treated water for fodder cultivation, especially as winter approaches.
In Tafila, Abu Soud addressed the ongoing challenges of water scarcity in the Barbitah region, directing an increase in water tankers to meet residents' needs until the completion of a treatment plant and reservoir at Al-Hasa-Al-Tannour well. This project has been prioritized for implementation by the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company.
The minister evaluated the progress of several projects in Tafila, including the rehabilitation and improvement of the Tafila water networks valued at JD6.2 million, Al-Ais networks at JD6.7 million, and the rehabilitation of the Al-Hasa water pumping stations at JD2.2 million. Additional projects include water delivery initiatives in Ghrandal district worth JD150,000, the government hospital sewage project, and a study to supply the Jrifa area in Ein al-Beida district with water.
