Amman: The Employment Unit at the Amman Chamber of Industry recently conducted an awareness workshop titled "Occupational Health and Safety: A Cost or a Successful Investment?" This event was supported by the Employment in Jordan 2030 (EJ2030) Project, implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
According to Jordan News Agency, the workshop's main aim was to emphasize the critical importance of implementing occupational health and safety measures within industrial establishments. These measures were presented not only as essential for worker protection but also as strategic investments that enhance the work environment, boost productivity, and reduce the financial losses associated with workplace accidents and injuries.
The workshop, inaugurated by the Chamber's Director General Nael Hussami, included multiple sessions that covered a range of core themes. These themes included the costs involved in implementing occupational health and safety systems, the economic benefits of viewing safety as an investment, and the direct and indirect costs related to workplace accidents. Furthermore, discussions highlighted the financial impact of occupational injuries in Jordan, methods for calculating returns on investment in safety, and presented an overview of international studies and indicators.
In addition to the presentations, occupational health and safety expert Muhammad Kamil Ismail announced the launch of a series of specialized training programs in occupational safety, set to be introduced by the Chamber's Operations Unit next year.
