Amman: Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Saud on Thursday launched a workshop on the Water and Energy Data Management System, a project valued at 2.7 million euros, in the presence of German Ambassador to Jordan Bertram von Moltke. Abu Saud emphasized that effective data management enhances the efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability of Jordan's water resources, which face significant challenges in both the water and energy sectors. He highlighted the growing difficulties posed by regional developments, population growth, urban expansion, economic activity, climate change, and shifting consumption patterns, all of which place added pressure on water security.
According to Jordan News Agency, Abu Saud underscored the interdependence between the water and energy sectors, noting that the water sector is the largest consumer of energy in Jordan. He called for strengthening collaboration between both sectors and implementing integrated resource management strategies to ensure sustainable development. He also advocated for the adoption of innovative methodologies to address water and energy security challenges.
Abu Saud described data management as a national strategic initiative that ensures resource sustainability and exemplifies smart governance in the water and energy sectors. He noted that the ministry has begun implementing a plan to reduce energy consumption, transition to alternative energy sources, and enhance partnerships with the private sector through water companies.
Commending the strong Jordanian-German cooperation, Abu Saud lauded the partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation, as well as collaboration with national institutions such as the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship. For his part, the German ambassador praised the long-standing partnership between Jordan and Germany, particularly in the water sector, and commended Jordan's efforts in tackling water-related challenges.
