Yamaha Withdraws from Qatar MotoGP Amid Middle East Tensions

Doha:Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha has announced its withdrawal from the upcoming Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix, citing company-wide travel restrictions due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Yamaha's decision comes despite assurances from MotoGP organizers that the race, scheduled for November 6-8 at Lusail International Circuit, can proceed safely. Yamaha stated that its decision is based on its own assessment of the situation and is independent of the safety measures implemented by MotoGP and event organizers.

The withdrawal is expected to affect both Yamaha's factory team and its satellite partner Pramac, potentially resulting in the absence of riders Fabio Quartararo, Alex Rins, Jack Miller, and Augusto Fernandez, who is replacing the injured Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlioglu.

Yamaha emphasized its commitment to MotoGP and expressed eagerness to return to competition at the Portuguese Grand Prix, scheduled for November 20-22. Meanwhile, MotoGP Group expressed disappointment with Yamaha's decision, noting that it does not reflect the safety assurances provided to championship participants.

MotoGP highlighted that consultations with Qatari authorities, independent safety advisers, and race organizers had found no reason to alter the event plans. It confirmed that all other manufacturers and teams have confirmed their participation in the Qatar Grand Prix. The organization also mentioned that Yamaha's withdrawal could have contractual implications, with any sporting consequences to be addressed by the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) under championship regulations. The Qatar Grand Prix was initially scheduled for April but was postponed to November due to the conflict in the Middle East.
