Zelenskyy Vows Peace Despite No Russian Ceasefire Memo Ahead of Istanbul Talks

Istanbul: Ukraine's president said Sunday that his government will strive to achieve 'at least some progress on the path toward peace' during talks set to take place in Istanbul, despite not receiving any ceasefire memorandum from Russia.

According to Anadolu Agency, in a video address, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reviewed recent developments in the Russia-Ukraine war, noting his meeting with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, who will lead the Ukrainian delegation in Monday's negotiations. Zelenskyy mentioned, "We discussed our expectations for the meeting in Istanbul on Monday." He emphasized Ukraine's proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire, describing it as logical and realistic.

Zelenskyy pointed out that the Russian side has not shared their memorandum with Ukraine, Turkey, or the United States. Despite this lack of documentation, he remains hopeful for progress towards peace. He also disclosed information about drone strikes conducted by Ukraine's Security Service targeting Russian military airfields.

The Ukrainian president detailed the operation, which involved 117 drones, noting that 34% of strategic cruise missile carriers at air bases were hit, resulting in the loss of over 40 Russian warplanes. Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine's commitment to defend itself and its people, stating that they never desired war.
