Most regions of the Kingdom are expected to bask in temperatures between 28C to 33C on Monday, bringing summerlike weather conditions to the highlands, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily update.

Meanwhile, sustained sunny spells will prevail in the plains and blistering conditions will influence in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, with northwesterly moderate winds to brisk, the JMD added.

In its report, the JMD warns of the danger of direct exposure to sunlight at noon.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather department predicted a new heatwave to envelop much of the country, bringing mercury to above seasonal average.

The temperatures in Amman today will see a high of 33 degrees Celsius during the day and a low of 21C at night. In the Gulf city of Aqaba, it will be much hotter with mercury reaching a high of 39C and a low of 27C.

The Ukrainian embassy in Amman confirmed that this year has demonstrated active development of bilateral dialogue between Ukraine and Jordan.

A statement by the embassy on Monday, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Ukrainian independence day, said that effective coordination between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and His Majesty King Abdullah II allowed the two sides to define priorities for the development of bilateral relations in the short and medium term and start its practical implementation with particular emphasis on trade and economic as well as defense and security cooperation.

“On August 24, Ukraine celebrates the 30th anniversary of Independence Day,” it stated, noting that on this day in 1991, the Parliament of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada, endorsed the Act of Proclamation of State Independence of Ukraine.

The embassy also stressed that Ukraine has secured the status of one of the most efficient technological, industrial platforms in Europe with the active development of the sector of innovative information technologies, indicating that the IT sector brings Ukraine up to $ 5 billion annually, the industry is estimated at $ 17 billion and continues to grow dynamically. More than 100 R&D centers located in Ukraine contribute to its scientific and technological progress.

“Ukraine is a key transport and logistics hub connecting Europe, Middle East and Asia. 19 free trade agreements with 47 countries contribute to deeper integration of Ukraine into the global trade and industry networks,” it further said.

Senate President Faisal Fayez described Jordanian-Kuwaiti relations as “historic, strong and based on mutual respect” and set a model for joint Arab action.

Fayez spoke as he welcomed Kuwaiti ambassador to Jordan Aziz Al-Daihani to discuss regional developments and aspects of bilateral cooperation and means of further enhancing relations in the various fields.

The Kuwaiti ambassador said relations with Jordan are “strategic”, stressing his country’s keen interest in cementing cooperation, and noting Jordan’s role toward pan-Arab issues and the unity of Arab ranks.

Protests escalated across Lebanon Monday over fuel shortages and rising prices, and electricity and water outages.

The traffic control authority reported that crowds snarled traffic on a number of highways and main roads, prompting the army to intervene to clear the protesters. Long lines of vehicles formed at some of the pumps that opened, but motorists managed to get limited amounts of fuel.

The Directorate General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy announced in a statement that fuel import companies will not open today, and that when the stock in the market runs out, the door will be open for imports.”

“The long vehicle queues at petrol stations have persisted since last week, and that petroleum companies did not deliver fuel to the stations today as they waited for the introduction of a new payment mechanism by the Banque du Liban for existing stocks in the companies and in oil tankers in the sea”, the Gas Station Owners Syndicate said in a statement.

It said that some gas stations have stocks that were being distributed to citizens, but a large part of them will run out of stock in the evening.

The Gas Distributors Syndicate also said gas stocks have run out.

However, the syndicate sought to assuage public anger, saying that “within a week, we will witness a gradual breakthrough when the oil tankers start unloading and deliveries to the local market by importers will resume.

More than 622,000 passengers travelled through the Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) during July, marking a major increase of 60 per cent month on month, according to the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC).

In a statement to Petra on Monday, CARC Chief Commissioner Haitham Misto said aircraft movement jumped by 36 per cent to 5,359 movements in July. The monthly increase, Misto added, brings the total number of aircraft movements to 20,569 since the beginning of this year, linking the Kingdom to 68 international destination directly, he added.

Following a government decision that exempts passengers who have received the two COVID-19 jabs from undergoing a PCR test upon entry, the percentage of passengers visiting the Kingdom picked up from 20 per cent in June to 28 per cent in July.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, last night received a phone call from President Joe Biden of the United States of America, during which President Biden thanked the UAE and its leadership for their support in helping evacuate American diplomats and nationals from Afghanistan, as well as nationals of allies countries and Afghans who hold visas from these countries.

“We highly appreciate the UAE’s humanitarian efforts in facilitating the safe transit of American citizens, embassies’ employees and foreigners who were evacuated from Kabul on their way to a third country,” said President Biden, adding that this stance represents the strong and everlasting partnership between the UAE and the US.

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and the US President also exchanged views on a number of regional and international developments and issues of common interest.

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has sent a message of condolences to His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Emir of Kuwait, on the death of Sheikha Badriah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah .

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also dispatched similar messages to the Kuwaiti Emir.
