Jordan chairs Arab Ministerial Committee on countering illegal Israeli measures

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Thursday chaired a meeting, in Cairo, of the Arab Ministerial Committee concerned with taking steps to stop the illegal Israeli measures in occupied Jerusalem.

During the meeting prior to the 156th regular session of the Arab League, Safadi reviewed Jordan’s efforts aiming at mobilizing international support to halt the illegal Israeli measures that targeting the Islamic and Christian holy sites’ identity in Jerusalem.

The panel, chaired by Jordan, issued a press statement confirming that it will continue to make intensive diplomatic efforts to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territories, and to mobilize the necessary international support to confront the illegal Israeli measures in occupied Jerusalem.

The General Secretariat of the Arab League issued a report related to the Israeli violations in the holy city of Jerusalem including all forms of support by the Kingdom for the people of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem in a way that preserves their rights and keeps them in their homes.

FM, Arab counterparts discuss cooperation, regional developments

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Thursday held a series of bilateral talks with his Arab counterparts, within the framework of maintaining joint coordination and consultation, on the sidelines of the 156th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level.

Safadi met Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah, to discuss ways to strengthen Jordanian-Kuwaiti “historic and brotherly” relations, adding that the two countries’ leaderships exert efforts to expand joint cooperation horizons.

In another meeting, Safadi and Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, pledged continued action to increase bilateral cooperation, and maintain continuous coordination on Arab and regional issues, in implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II and President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, in a manner that reflects the “historic, deep-rooted, brotherly” relations and their “strategic” dimensions.

In addition, Safadi and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed the two kingdom’s keenness to continue efforts to strengthen “historic, brotherly” relations and cooperation in various fields, in implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

The duo reviewed regional developments, stressing the importance of activating joint Arab action in facing the challenges and crises facing the region.

Safadi’s talks with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Lebanese caretaker government, Zina Aker, focused on strengthening the “brotherly and historic” relations between the two brotherly countries.

Safadi expressed the Kingdom’s keenness to advance levels of bilateral cooperation with Lebanon, and support Beirut in various circumstances and challenges to preserve the country’s security and stability.

Tourism ministry, AICS discuss joint cooperation, projects

Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Imad Hijazin, discussed on Thursday with Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Jordan (AICS), Emilio Cabasino, ways to enhance joint cooperation in the tourism field.

Speaking at the meeting, Hijazin expressed the ministry’s readiness to intensify cooperation with AICS in developing archaeological and tourist sites.

Acting Director-General of Jordan Department of Antiquities (DoA), Hisham Abbadi, stressed the importance of the existing DoA-AICS cooperation through joint agreements aimed to develop the Kingdom’s archaeological and tourist sites.

Joint programs cover four pilot projects: Restoration in northern ancient city of Jerash, Madaba downtown development, preservation project in southern Shobak Castle, and Amman Roman Theater development, Abbadi pointed out.

Cabasino, for his part, stressed AICS’s keenness to cooperate and support projects to preserve Jordan’s cultural and human heritage and rehabilitate its archaeological and tourist destinations.

The two sides agreed to nominate a liaison officer for each project to carry out follow-up and coordination tasks.

Fully funded by the Italian government, the four projects seek to develop Jordan’s archaeological and tourist attractions and their surrounding communities, according to a ministry statement.

FM takes part in regular Arab League ministerial session

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, on Thursday, in the 156th regular session of the Arab League in Cairo.

Addressing the session, Safadi said that the absence of scopes of solution to the Palestinian cause on the basics that meet the legitimate rights of the Palestinians is the core of tension and conflict in the Middle East region.

He stressed that a just peace that is accepted by all peoples is Jordan’s strategic choice, adding that the two-state solution is in the only way to achieve such peace, as the Kingdom will always exert every possible efforts to achieve it.

JOS conference reviews cancer diagnosis, treatment developments

Minister of Health Dr. Firas Hawari inaugurated remotely on Thursday, the 20th International Conference of the Jordanian Oncology Society (JOS) at Jordan Medical Association (JMA), with local, Arab and foreign participation.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hawari said Jordan has made successes in the tumor treatment, adding that its key interest aims to provide the necessary health services to cancer patients particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The conference activities will be “inspiring and rich,” he said, adding that related working papers and tumor-based scientific research, diagnosis and treatment will enrich the experience.

Also speaking was JOS’s director at JMA, Dr. Sami Khatib, who said oncology has witnessed a “remarkable” revolution in important scientific research during the past two decades, as physicians have an “accurate” knowledge of disease causes, adding that a set of “important” medicines have been produced accordingly.

For his part, head of the conference’s scientific committee, Dr. Samir Yasser, said the event provides 16 medical educational hours and will discuss 54 lectures presented by “distinguished” university faculty.

Some 1,250 doctors attend the three-day conference from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, the United States, Britain, Germany, Belgium, Algeria and Sudan, representing various medical sectors, according to a JOS statement.

First Iraqi oil shipment arrives Jordan Thursday

The first shipment of Iraqi crude oil arrived on Thursday to Jordan, in implementation of the new agreement signed between the two countries to supply the Kingdom with 3.7 million oil barrels at a rate of 10,000brls per day with a discount of $16 from the price of Brent crude per barrel.

According to Burj Al Hayat Transport and Trading Co., the agreed oil deliveries meet 10% of Jordan’s daily need for oil and its derivatives.

Oil shipments are loaded at Baiji refinery in Iraq’s Salah al-Din Governorate to Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company (JPRC) in Zarqa city, delivered by 800 Jordanian and Iraqi fuel tankers, using door-to-door delivery service, the company added.

Earlier, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources had awarded a tender to transport crude oil from Iraq’s Baiji to Zarqa’s JPRC to Burj Al Hayat Transport and Trading Co.

Jordan sees 17 COVID-19 fatalities, 888 new cases on Thursday-MoH

The Ministry of Health announced 17 Covid-19 fatalities and 888 new cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Thursday, bringing the death toll to 10,518 and the caseload to 805, 214.

To date, there are currently 12, 032 cases countrywide, according to the media statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The statement added that the number of patients who were admitted to hospitals today stood at 60, while 54 cases have recovered and discharged.

According to the briefing, the total number of recoveries recorded Thursday, whether at hospitals or at home, stood at 787 bringing the total to 782,664 since the outbreak began.

Moreover, the number of Covid-19 patients still receiving treatment at hospitals countrywide has reached 527.

The statement also indicated that occupancy of ICU beds in the northern, central and southern regions, has has reached 18%, 26%, and 14%, respectively.

With regard to testing, 29, 450 tests were conducted Thursday, 3.02 percent of which were positive.

Since last March, the total number of tests administered has increased to 9,504, 180, the joint statement noted.

The statement also added that the total number of people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 3,553,514 and 3,063,947 have received their second shot.

35th Jerash festival to begin September 22, announces Ayed

Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Higher Committee of Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts, Ali Ayed, announced the festival is scheduled to begin its 35th edition’s activities on September 22, under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II in the ancient city of Jerash.

Speaking at a press conference held Thursday at Royal Cultural Center, Ayed said this year’s festival will run to next October 2 within a health protocol prepared for this purpose.

The 2021 festival’s activities coincide with Jordan’s celebrations of its centenary anniversary, which would reflect values and traditions entrenched over a hundred years in various cultural and social aspects, Ayed told the press.

Noting the importance to protect public health, Ayed said the government decided to adhere to the health protocol using “Sanad” app. inside the festival’s venues, and adhere to a seat capacity less than 50% in theaters and halls.

Reservations will be made online, he said, adding that seat capacity in the festival’s Southern Theater will stand at 2,500 only, while its Northern Theater will host 1,500 visitors.

As one of the leading cultural events in Middle East and North Africa, Jerash Festival was first held in 1981, which was then cancelled three times, in 1982, 2006 and in 2008 for three years. In 2011 the government revived the event.

Azaiza, EBRD director discuss joint transport projects

Minister of Transport, Wajih Azaiza, on Thursday discussed with Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Philip ter Woort, issues of mutual interest in the transport field, the latest developments in Jordan’s transport sector projects and the bank’s mechanism to assist the ministry in achieving its goals.

Azaiza briefed Woort on the ministry’s strategy and its priority projects, such as the urban transport project in Irbid and Zarqa governorates, national railway network and Jordan’s smart transportation systems.

Discussions also went over EBRD’s initiatives aimed at helping Jordan’s public transport operators keep pace with the sector developments, in addition to the ministry’s interest in the “green” transport plan, which is implemented in coordination with environment and energy ministries, according to the ministry statement.
