ASTM International Acquires Global Additive Manufacturing Intelligence Leader Wohlers Associates

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., Nov. 15, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Today, global standards organization ASTM International announced the acquisition of Wohlers Associates, a global intelligence leader in the additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing industry. The announcement coincided with the Standards Forum at Formnext 2021, which serves as the leading trade show for AM and next-generation intelligent manufacturing solutions.

As part of the acquisition, ASTM International acquires the Wohlers Report, the premier publication for the AM industry, along with intelligence briefs, specialized reports, training in design for AM, and consulting services.

Morgan looks forward to combining the Wohlers Report, and the full portfolio of products and services from Wohlers Associates, with the work of ASTM’s members and the AM Center of Excellence (CoE). This alignment will result in new possibilities for business intelligence, advice, and resources in the global AM community.

Moving forward, the Fort Collins, Colorado company will do business as Wohlers Associates, powered by ASTM International. Terry Wohlers, the organization’s principal consultant and president, will join ASTM International and serve as head of additive manufacturing market intelligence. Also, Noah Mostow of Wohlers Associates will become ASTM’s new manager of AM market intelligence and analytics. Both will serve under ASTM’s AM CoE.

وأشار بيلجيك إلى أن هناك العديد من الأبحاث العلمية التي تؤكد أن التبغ المسخنهو منتج أقل ضرراً من السجائر التقليدية  لذا تتجه الشركة إلى التحول إلى المنتجات البديلة للتقليل من آثار أعمالها على الصحة والبيئة في إطار سعيها لتحقيق غدٍ أفضل.

وأوضح المدير الإقليمي لشركة بريتش أمريكان توباكو، أن مصر من أفضل عشر أسواق في العالم بمجال صناعة التبغ، وأن حجم استثمار الشركة في مصر في منتج التبغ المسخن GLO وصل إلى 20 مليون جنيه إسترليني في 2021 كما أننا وفرنا أكثر من 1000 فرصة عمل، مؤكدًا أن مجال صناعة التبغ ساهم بشكل كبير في تطوير اقتصاد كثير من دول العالم. وأشاد بيلجيك بالجهود الكبيرة التي تقوم بها مصر للحد من نسبة التضخم، وموضحاً أن هذه الجهود قد ساهمت بشكل كبير في ارتفاع حجم الاستثمار داخل الدولة المصرية.

وأضاف بيلجيك أنه يتمنى أن تقوم الحكومة المصرية بطرح رخص تصنيع متعددة ومختلفة للسجائر التقليدية والمنتجات الجديدة كلٌّ على حدة، وهو ما يبعث رسائل قوية تؤكد أن مناخ الاستثمار في مصر جاذب ويشجع المستثمرين على ضخ استثمارات أكثر؛ مؤكداً أن ذلك سيزيد من معدلات الدخل الذي تحققه الصناعة للخزانة المصرية، فضلاً عن خلق مناخ منافسة حرة وعادلة.

وجدير بالذكر أن عدداً من شركات التبغ العاملة في السوق المصري قد تقدمت بطلب لرئاسة الوزراء لتعديل عدد من بنود رخصة التصنيع الجديدة ومنها عدم الجمع في رخصة واحدة بين إنتاج السجائر التقليدية ومنتجات الجيل الجديد مثل السجائر الإلكترونية والتبغ المسخّن. وقدمت الشركات عدة بدائل للدولة منها طرح رخص متعددة ترتبط بحصص إنتاجية بالمليار سيجارة.

وعن السجائر الإلكترونية، أكد بيلجيك أن الشركة تخطط لطرح منتجها Vuse في مصر خلال العام القادم بعد أن قامت الحكومة المصرية بتقنين السائل الإلكتروني استناداً إلى قرار وزيرة الصحة رقم 79 لسنة 2021 بإدراج كل من التبغ المسخن والسائل الإلكتروني ضمن اللائحة التنفيذية لقانون الوقاية من أضرار التدخين، كما تم إخضاعها للضريبة من قبل وزارة المالية في وقت سابق. هذا وقد حصلت الشركة مؤخراً  في أمريكا على موافقة إدارة الغذاء والدواء الأمريكية (FDA) لتسويق منتج السجائر الإلكترونية في أمريكا كأول منتج يحصل على هذه  الموافقة.

ومن جانبه، أكد ليبان أحمد، مدير عام مجموعة بريتش أمريكان توباكو – مصر والسودان وتونس وليبيا: “أننا نعمل بشكل مستمر على تحديث محفظة منتجاتنا بما يتناسب مع أولويات المستهلكين، مع حفاظنا على توفير فرص عمل مستدامة لموظفينا وعمالنا الذين هم أساس عملنا واستثماراتنا وهم سر نجاحنا والمحرك الأساسي لعمليات الشركة، مضيفاً أن الشركة لديها علاقات قوية ووطيدة مع الشركة الشرقية للدخان تمتد إلى أكثر من 20 عاماً.. ويظهر ذلك من خلال اتفاقيتيْ الشراكة وتعاون بين الطرفين”.

وشكر ليبان الحكومة المصرية على تقنينها للسائل الإلكتروني، مما سيتيح للشركة ضخ استثمارات جديدة وزيادة فرص العمل المباشرة وغير المباشرة في السوق المصري، أشار ليبان أحمد إلى أن الشركة تستهدف في سعيها إلى الاستحواذ على حصة سوقية للمنتجات البديلة للسجائر التقليدية 5% من سوق المنتجات الجديدة في مصر خلال السنوات الثلاث القادمة.

وصرح مراد جوفين، المدير الشؤون الخارجية والقانونية  للمنطقة  في شركة بريتش أمريكان توباكو: “نسعى لتوفير حلول لمحاربة ظاهرة التهريب والتجارة غير المشروعة لمنتجات التبغ والمنتجات الجديدة ورفع الوعي في هذا المجال؛ حيث أن  نسبة المنتجات التبغ المهربة في السوق المصرية تتخطى 10% من إجمالي السوق، مما أدى إلى خسائر لخزانة الدولة تقدر بحوالي 10 مليارات جنيه في سنة 2019/2020؛ مضيفاً أن هناك الحل الاقتصادي الذي يكمن في طرح منتجات سجائر عالمية بمواصفات ومعايير الجودة القياسية في الشريحة الدنيا حتى يتسنى للمستهلكين الحصول على منتجات عالية الجودة بأسعار مناسبة، وبذلك نلبي طلب جميع المستويات في السوق المصرية، والحل الآخر هو رفع الوعي من خلال التعاون مع الجهات الحكومية والجهات المعنية”.

Turkey condemns suicide attacks in Uganda

Turkey on Tuesday condemned deadly suicide attacks that hit Uganda’s capital of Kampala.

“We are saddened to receive the news that suicide attacks, which were carried out today (16 November) in the capital of Uganda, Kampala, resulted in many losses of lives, including police officers, and left several people wounded,” said a Foreign Ministry statement.

It condemned the “heinous attacks” and conveyed its “condolences to the families of the deceased and the friendly Government and People of Uganda and we wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.”

At least six people were killed in twin explosions early Tuesday, including three presumed suicide bombers, according to Ugandan police officials.

Police counter-terrorism response teams shot and injured a would-be fourth bomber after the explosions near parliament and the Central Police Station, according to police spokesman Fred Enanga.

Police said terrorists from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) — a group active in Uganda and neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo — are responsible for the attack. The US has linked the ADF with the Daesh/ISIS terror group.

Police put the provisional number of injuries at 33.

For her part, the Swedish Foreign Minister hailed the agency’s efforts under such difficult circumstances, underscoring that today’s conference is an opportunity to renew solidarity with Palestinian refugees and UNRWA’s international mandate and crucial role.

She also underlined the need to continue supporting the UNRWA until the refugee issue is resolved, pointing out the importance of matching the agency’s political support with financial support to enable it to carry out the minimum requirements of its operations in its areas of work. Additionally, Linde highlighted the need to provide a sustainable and stable budget for the agency.

Meanwhile, the UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini thanked both Safadi and Linde for organizing this conference, stressing that the UNRWA’s vision rests on the commitment to leave no Palestinian refugee behind. “It [UNRWA’s vision] is about ensuring that UNRWA services accompany all refugees on their transformative journey towards self-reliance,” he added.

“Financial and political threats of a truly existential nature are working against this vision. If these threats are not addressed decisively, they will create a vacuum and a human disaster that this region simply cannot afford,” Lazzarini noted.

He called for supporting the UNRWA with $100 million to bring the agency and personnel back to their full capacity.

According to the Commissioner-General, countries participating in the conference have pledged around $38 million.

This conference is the third in a series of conferences held under a Jordanian-Swedish joint organization following the Rome conference in 2018, aiming to mobilize the necessary international political and financial support for the agency and reduce the financial deficit it faced. The efforts plugged the unprecedented financial deficit, after a total of $122 million were pledged for this purpose.

In June of 2020, the International Ministerial Conference on UNRWA brought together more than fifty countries and representatives of international and regional organizations. During the conference, a total of $130 million were pledged to enable the agency to provide its vital services to Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation in accordance with its UN mandate.

Turkey donates military vehicles to Somali National Army

The Somali National Army (SNA) received military vehicles, including trucks and ambulances, donated by Turkey on Tuesday as part of Ankara’s support for the nation’s military.

Senior military officials received the donation after a ceremony at the Turkish Embassy in the capital of Mogadishu.

Officials from Turkey’s military mission, Turk-Som, also attended the ceremony and announced that Ankara will continue to support the SNA, the government and people of Somalia.

SNA army chief Gen. Odawa Yusuf Rageh told Anadolu Agency that Turkish military support is key in fighting Somali-based al-Qaeda affiliated terror group al-Shabaab.

Somalia’s elite military unit, Gorgor commandos, will use the vehicles and the ambulances.

Turkey has been providing training and military assistance to Somalia’s military to help build that nation’s military capacity.

Turkey is the first country to train Somali female police commandos after the first patch of officers arrived in Mogadishu in September. They joined a special forces unit, Harmacad (Cheetah), after they underwent special training in Turkey.

The Gorgor and Harmacad elite units are fighting al-Shabaab.

Over 118.73M coronavirus vaccine shots given in Turkey to date

Turkey has administered over 118.73 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines since it launched an immunization drive in January, according to official figures released on Tuesday.

More than 55.9 million people have been given a first vaccine dose and over 49.78 million have been fully vaccinated, the Health Ministry said.

Turkey has also given third booster shots to over 11.73 million people.

The ministry recorded 25,101 new coronavirus cases, 227 deaths, and 27,447 recoveries over the past day.

As many as 356,514 virus tests were done in the past 24 hours, the data showed.

Since December 2019, the pandemic has claimed over 5.1 million lives in at least 192 countries and regions, with more than 254.1 million cases reported worldwide, according to the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
